Energy saving tips

1. Get your gas appliances checked once a year by your local plumbers in Ashby de la Zouch, or in accordance with your manufacturer's guidelines, by Gas Safe registered plumbing and heating engineers. Your Gas Safe registered engineer will carry out tests and checks to establish your appliances are operating safely.

2. By installing a condensing boiler you could save yourself around £360 a year. Enquire about our boiler service and boiler upgrades.

The Energy Saving Trust notes that a boiler which is over 15 years old may need replacing, ideally with a condensing boiler. Replacing your old boiler with a new high efficiency condensing boiler can save you around a third on your heating bills straight away. By law, new gas boilers fitted must now be condensing boilers (with a few exceptions depending on suitability) and condensing boilers can be easily fitted to most new and old heating systems, ask your plumbers for advice.

3. Fit individual radiator thermostats. Take charge of your central heating by introducing a system of radiator valves to manage temperature. These valves are fitted onto individual radiators and are used to sense temperature; switching units on or off, depending on how warm the room is. S.D.Hill plumbers in Ashby de la Zouch can help you save by installing thermostatic valves on your radiators, contact us for more information on temperature control.

4. Turn your thermostat down by 1 degree Celsius. By putting on a couple of extra layers you'll be able to turn your thermostat down and save energy. If your house starts to feel chilly, put on a jumper rather than turning up the heating. Or, if you think you may be overheating your house, turn down the thermostat and try warm clothing instead.

5. Switch off lights when a room is not in use. Leaving lights on when no one is in the room is a huge waste of energy. This is probably the easiest switch you can make. Rather than leaving a light on when you exit a room, simply switch it off. It couldn’t be easier! Cut your electricity spend even further by opting for low-energy lightbulbs.
